Standard Sewing Machines for Wig Making

If you plan to start making wigs on the sewing machine, it's important that you choose the right machine. Not every sewing machine is fitting for wig making. You need to choose a machine that is reliable enough to handle the thickness of wefts, and a machine that is within your budget.

In this blog, I will share with you the sewing machines I use for wig making, and pros and cons of each machine.

If you are taking a wig making class with me, and you choose to bring a different machine to class, make sure you know how to properly thread and operate your machine. I will be providing instruction for operating these sewing machines in class. I can't provide instruction for all sewing machines in one course, so to make the best use of our time, I provide instruction for wig making on these machines specifically.

Here are the machines I use:

  • Janome is one of the most reliable brands in sewing

  • This machine will be more expensive than others on the market, but it will likely last longer in the long run

  • Easy to use for beginners

  • Lightweight, easy to transport

  • Singer is a popular brand in sewing, however, recent reviews suggest that Singer machines aren't as reliable as they use to be. This machine has many good reviews online

  • This machine is less expensive than others on the market

  • Easy to use for beginners

  • Lightweight, easy to transport

The bottom line: You can't go wrong with either of these machines. Both are good quality, and reliable for wig making. This primarily comes down to budget. Check the prices on both machines and choose the one that is best for you! :)

Do your own research and find the best machine out there for you. There are many machines to choose from. These just happen to be two that I have used and found success with.
